About
Before graduate school, I began my undergraduate studies as a Physics major at the University of Southern California (USC), where I participated in several research laboratories. Near the end of my undergraduate degree—and during the Covid pandemic—I had the unique opportunity to work remotely with the Moffitt Cancer Center’s Integrated Mathematical Oncology Lab in Tampa, Florida. Here I witnessed research applying math to medicine analogously to how math applied to physics, and appreciating this newfound versatility of math, I supplemented my Physics degree with Applied Mathematics and graduated from USC in Spring 2022.
I continued investigating this integrated research perspective by starting a masters in Mathematical Biology at the University of St Andrews in Fall 2022. Following this yearlong program, I moved back to California and began a PhD in Mathematical, Computational, and Systems Biology at UC Irvine, expecting to begin a career in interdisciplinary science. Instead, I decided early in the program to transfer departments and attempt a PhD in Mathematics instead. This was primarily done to gain mathematical abilities requisite for novel theoretical work as well as develop my instructional abilities as a Teaching Assistant.
These varied academic experiences have specially prepared me to communicate across disciplines while retaining fundamental training in the mathematical sciences. My academic hope is to develop rigorous mathematical insights while simultaneously and synergistically supporting theory development in the natural sciences.
